Sir Stanley Matthews was an English right winger, considered by many to be the greatest player in the history of English football. Born on February 1, 1915, Matthews had a long football career, playing professionally from 1932 to 1965, at the age of 50. Known as the "Dribbling Wizard," he inherited his father's obsession with perfect health and was the first professional footballer to be knighted by the British Empire. Stanley Matthews was the first player to receive the Ballon d'Or in American football in 1956, at the age of 41, while playing for Blackpool.
