The Jungle - A song I made with a Casio CT-460: Stereo Ninja Music

Click "Show more" to view the full description While playing around with a Casio CT-460 keyboard, I noticed that the keys produced a lot of noise when pressed. This gave me the idea of making a beat using the sounds produced when the keys were pressed. I then started playing with the slider and found that it too could produce some interesting sounds, so I recorded both of them and used them as the basis of the track. I used my MacBook Pro's built in microphone to record the noises from the keyboard. Recording the sounds were a bit tricky as I had to place my Mac below the CT-460 and adjust the mic gain to maximum. While this did allow me to capture the sounds, it did however also capture the sounds of my Mac's fans. Normally you wouldn't be able to hear them but as I was using a high amount of gain on the microphone, this did emphasise the fan noise a lot. I was able to reduce the fan noise using a combination of Noise Gate, EQ and Expander audio plugins. I then recorded the rest of the track using the keyboard's built in instruments and this track was born. In the video you can see how I made the sounds from the keyboard as well as footage of me playing and editing parts of this track. Apologies if the video and audio lose sync as I recorded the audio first and then recorded the video after. Also some sections of this video may appear a little bit bleached because unfortunately my phone doesn't record that well in low light conditions. I ended up using my phone's built in flash was used to make the keyboard easier to see. This also emphasised the amount of dust that is on my keyboard as well.
