From Huashan West Road Station, walking down the slope, you’ll arrive at Green Lake (Cuihu). Because of places like the Luyun Residence and Green Lake Hotel, strolling, having tea, or sipping coffee along Cuihu East Road has become a way to experience Kunming’s unique historical charm. Today, I entered from the East Gate, enjoying the summer rain and the atmosphere of my favorite Green Lake. In this episode, I also visited Paper-Stone Bookstore, discovering how reading and walking come together in Kunming’s rainy days to create another kind of leisure. Every walk brings surprises—Kunming always hides something unexpected. Looking forward to sharing the next journey with you! 📍 July 10, 2025 · Kunming, Yunnan | Cuihu Lake Kunming in July is cool and rainy. Cuihu (Green Lake), often called “the Eye of Kunming”, lies quietly behind the bustling streets of Wuhua District. In his essay Reflections of Cuihu, Wang Zengqi once wrote: “Without Cuihu, Kunming would not be Kunming.” Ten years later, I return to this city, to see what Cuihu is like on a rainy summer’s day. Entering through the East Gate, the path to the park’s center is flanked by ponds, where lotus leaves and water lilies bloom freely. As raindrops ripple across the surface of the water, ducks paddle unbothered, and little birds flit along the shore. The noise of the city fades, leaving only the sounds of rain, wind, and my own quiet steps. 🌿 Just a short walk from Cuihu lies ZBooks. A four-story building with minimalist concrete walls, it’s filled with books, coffee, vinyl records, and small, carefully curated objects.
