On June 4, 2026, 15-year-old Ja'Derrius Minnieweather rode a bike to the home of a girl he'd known for years, in the Foster and Winbourne neighborhood of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. That same night, the 16-year-old girl had been out with 51-year-old Maurice Parms, a man she'd had an ongoing relationship with for nearly a year. When Ja'Derrius spoke up about how Parms was treating her, neighbors reported hearing a violent altercation. He never made it home. Investigators say Parms disposed of Ja'Derrius's body, which was later collected by a sanitation truck and taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish North Landfill, a 400-acre site processing over 1,600 tons of trash daily. What followed was a search effort involving the Baton Rouge Police Department, the FBI, Louisiana State Police, the National Guard, LSU's forensic anthropology lab, and dozens of volunteers, working in extreme heat through hazardous material for more than five weeks before locating remains believed to be his. This video covers what's known about Ja'Derrius, the investigation that led detectives to Parms, the scale and difficulty of the landfill search, and where the case stands now. A note on where this case stands: Maurice Parms has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree rape, trafficking a minor for sex, and multiple counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile, tied to his relationship with the 16-year-old girl. He has not been convicted of anything and remains presumed innocent under the law. DNA confirmation of the recovered remains was still pending as of this video, and no trial date has been set. This video does not speculate on guilt beyond what has been formally charged.
