Taking the ordinary, non-aircon bus was the norm before when going around Palawan when the roads going out of Puerto Princesa were still unpaved and dusty. However, the roads were improved several years ago, and travelling by vans became the new standard. They were airconditioned, fast, and even pick you up from the airport and take you to your destinations. There are still buses operating around Palawan, and this we wanted to try. So, from Port Barton, we hopped on an ordinary, non-aircon bus to get us to Puerto Princesa. They are cheaper (P250 instead of P550 for vans), give senior discount (I paid only P200), have much better leg rooms and head rooms, and allowed me to see much of Palawan's countryside from my bus window while enjoying its fresh mountain air. Here's our experience of riding the traditional buses of Palawan.
