Let's discuss replacing the MAP sensor on this 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. MAP sensor stands for Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor, and it measures the amount of intake vacuum on the engine, which also determines the amount of engine load.
First thing first, we're going to disconnect the electrical connector here, and then we're going to take our 90-degree pick and release the locking tabs that hold this in place. So we'll work it from side to side, release the tabs here, and then we'll go up to the top and pop this out. Be very careful not to snap this plastic. It might be kind of brittle from years of heat. Now, we can simply grab the MAP sensor, twist it, and pull it out of the way.
In the same manner, we'll take our new MAP sensor and gently twist it as we apply some slight pressure to it, making sure it's fully seated in the manifold. Once that's set, we're going to take our locking clip. We'll pop that into place, as well. Again, make sure it's fully seated and holding it in place. We don't want this thing to pop out for some unforeseen reason.
Then we'll take our electrical connector, lock it in, and the job is done. Now, we'll still want to go back in with a scan tool, clear out any trouble codes that may have been set by the previously faulty MAP sensor, and ensure our new one is operating properly. But now the job is done. You've just seen how to replace a MAP sensor on your Chevy Trailblazer with a 4.2-liter engine.
