Coming up next, Earth, Wind & Fire's September, a 70s classic that contained a date that would become the most famous in song history! Many have wondered why the legendary group or songwriter chose the particular date… We’ll find out next. September is a stone-cold classic song that, whenever played, is a guaranteed floor flooder from a group that grooves like no other. It was a song written by a woman who was on food stamps, but this classic would immediately pull her out of poverty and make her one of the richest songwriters ever. But the legendary singer of the band, Maurice White, threw a nonsense word in the chorus that he was severely criticized for. Many wanted it changed… He stuck with it, believing it was a key to the song…But what did it mean? Find out why it was so important as we celebrate maybe the greatest crossover classic in music history! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Executive Producer Brandon Fugal Honorary Producers Junal Garnett, Samuel Cohen, Jeff Kolek, Steve, Anthony Fedora ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out my Hand Picked Selection Below Professor's Store Van Halen OU812 Vinyl Album https://amzn.to/3tLsII2 The 80s Collection https://amzn.to/3mAekOq 100 Best Selling Albums https://amzn.to/3h3qZX9 Ultimate History of 80s Teen Movie https://amzn.to/3ifjdKQ 80s to 90s VHS Video Cover Art https://amzn.to/2QXzmIX Totally Awesome 80s A Lexicon https://amzn.to/3h4ilrk Best In Ear Headphones (I Use These Every Day) https://amzn.to/2ZcTlIl ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check Out The Professor of Rock Merch Store -http://bit.ly/ProfessorMerch ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check Out Patron Benefits http://bit.ly/ProfessorofRockVIPFan Help out the Channel by purchasing your albums through our links! So, it’s time for another edition of #1 in Our Hearts. This show honors songs that were so unbelievably great, they absolutely should've been #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. But for whatever reason, be it radio play, lack of marketing, label support or just sheer stupidity, the song came up short. On previous episodes we have covered You Make My Dreams by Daryl Hall and John Oates and I Can Dream About You by Dan Hartman. THis one should’ve been #1 for 10 weeks. It’s one of the most joyful get up and dance ditties ever recorded. Today we are taking a deep dive Earth, Wind and Fire’s 1978 hit September. Seriously How this wasn’t a #1 song right out of the the gate is beyond me. It is just so good. I really can’t say enough about Earth Wind, and Fire. They are one of my favorite groups… they’re just so electric. So today I want to celebrate this incredible group, their incomparable leader Maurice White, and their signature song September… which is a guaranteed hair standing on end, smile enhancing extravaganza! Maurice White was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and began his musical career as part of a jazz trio called the Mad Lads that he co-formed with his childhood buddy, the illustrious Booker T. Jones. Reflecting back on those early days, Booker remembered Maurice as a shy kid who spoke in a whisper. But that shyness would be short-lived, as Maurice would later break out of his shell to showcase an energetic personality that would captivated the world. After the White family moved from Memphis to Chicago, Maurice played drums for a few local bands, including the Pharaohs and the Jazz Band, before getting hired as a session drummer for Chess Records. There he would play with several all-time greats like Etta James, Chuck Berry and Junior Wells. In 1966, Maurice joined the Ramsey Lewis trio as their drummer. But he had a burning desire to create his own act.
