Heritage Classic

I love my Road King, but could the Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic offer the comfort, character and classic looks I enjoy in a bike that feels easier to manage? With my Fat Bob at Newmarket Harley-Davidson for its MOT, I take the Heritage Classic out for a proper ride through the Suffolk countryside to find out how it compares with my own much-loved Road King. From the first few turns, the Heritage feels more compact and easier to manoeuvre. But there’s plenty more to consider than weight alone. How comfortable is it? What’s the suspension like on our bumpy country roads? Does the standard exhaust still have that Harley character? And could this be a good choice for touring, rallies and relaxed days out? Along the way, I share my thoughts on the Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine, low seat, riding position, footboards, detachable windscreen, panniers and those wonderfully practical mudguards. We stop for a closer look at the bike in a lovely village setting, call in at Café 33 for lunch, and consider the question: could I see myself owning one? There’s also one very personal test. Is it a motorcycle you could park on the driveway, pull up a chair beside and simply enjoy looking at? For me, that’s part of the appeal of a classic Harley.
