“Mama Me-Yah!”, a Chinese Peranakan family tale, is brought to you by a group of Penang Babas and Nyonyas. While inspired by history, it does not offer a precise portrayal of the lifestyle and speech of Penang's Chinese Peranakan families from the past. Concept, storyline, music and lyrics-adaptation: Helen Yeo Director, videographer, graphics and editor: Adrian Cheah Music editor: Dr Gordon Lee Costume coordinator: Oon Suan See All Rights Reserved © 2024 Helen Yeo and Adrian Cheah Presented by the Evergreeners: Dato’ Molly Mark, Dr Gordon Lee, Loh Geok Lan, Looi Siew Khuan, Adrian Cheah, Dr Ng Teng Kok, Susan Tan, Dr Lim Chin Lam, Helen Yeo, Teresa Kam, Oon Suan See, Jenny Tang, Sally Lee, Josephine Kuan, Teoh Swee Phoe In 2017, Helen Yeo created and developed this play for the State Chinese (Penang) Association. Then titled "Baba Nyonya Love Story”, it premiered as the opening act of the 30th Baba Nyonya Convention held in Penang at the Majestic Theatre on 25 November 2017. Featuring more than 20 performers from the association's choir group, the production was staged in a musical concert format, starring four sisters and their four suitors. It was accompanied by a chorus ensemble. Find out all about Penang and more: https://www.adriancheah.com/
