Unit 4 is 10–15% of your AP Biology exam — and it's all in this one video. Cell communication, signal transduction, feedback loops, the cell cycle, checkpoints, and what happens when the brakes fail: cancer.
In one video you'll learn:
✅ The 4 ways cells talk (4.1) — direct, paracrine, synaptic, endocrine, sorted by distance
✅ Why the ligand does NOT go inside (4.2) — protein vs steroid receptors
✅ The phosphorylation relay + amplification (4.3) — one epinephrine, millions of glucose
✅ Feedback loops (4.4) — and why positive does NOT mean good news
✅ The cell cycle + PMAT (4.5) — plus the counting trap that catches everyone
✅ Checkpoints, cyclins & CDKs (4.6) — density-dependent inhibition, anchorage dependence
✅ When the brakes fail: cancer, tumors, metastasis (4.7)
🧪 THE EXAM TRAPS:
1. The ligand does NOT go inside — protein signals bind surface receptors; the shape change carries the message
2. Positive ≠ good, negative ≠ bad — the words only describe direction vs the set point
3. Count CENTROMERES, not arms — 4 X-shapes = 4 chromosomes
4. Mitosis ≠ cytokinesis — mitosis divides the nucleus, cytokinesis divides the cell
💬 COMMENT QUESTION: A cell has 6 chromosomes. After S phase, how many chromatids — and how many chromosomes? Drop your numbers below — I answer every comment!
