I challenged myself to beat Metroid the same way kids back in the day did it. With just the original instruction manual. In this challenge run, I try to beat Metroid for the NES without using any guides, walkthroughs, maps, YouTube videos, or outside help of any kind. Just the words Nintendo wrote in the original instruction manual, the information provided by the game itself (lol), and my own ability to figure everything out (which is great). Metroid is one of the most important games in Nintendo history. Actually, Metroid is one of the most important games in GAMING history. It helped establish an entire genre of exploration-focused action games that would go on to be NAMED AFTER IT! But playing the original Metroid in 2026 without a guide is a VERY different experience. The game is cryptic, the world is confusing, and some of the secrets Nintendo expected players to discover on their own are absolutely ridiculous. So can I actually beat the original Metroid on NES without looking anything up? If you love retro gaming, classic Nintendo games, NES games, Metroid, blind playthroughs, challenge runs, old school gaming, and experiencing classic games the way they were meant to be played, then you're on the right video.
