At 19, He Went to Prison. Today, He Is Changing Lives in His Community | Ken's Story

Ken's story is a reminder that where you start in life doesn't have to determine where you end up. In this episode of The Kitchen Chair, I sit down with Ken to talk about a journey that takes us from childhood responsibility and selling sugarcane to classmates, to business, failure, prison, transformation, faith and eventually community service. At 19, Ken made a decision that landed him in prison. But that wasn't where his story ended. Years later, after experiencing some of life's hardest moments, Ken found himself building a different kind of life — one focused not only on his own family, but on the children and young people in his community in Mombasa. We talk about why children were missing school because of basic necessities, why Ken believes education creates a lasting mental shift, and how his family opened their home to children from the surrounding community. We also explore the work of Divine Solutions Center, including education support, mentorship, sanitary-pad initiatives for girls, bead-making projects for young mothers and block-making projects for young men. But perhaps the biggest question in this conversation is this: Do you need to be wealthy before you can make a difference? Ken's answer is very different. He believes community service isn't about how much you have. It's about what you can do with what you already have. And even after moving to Kuwait, he continues finding ways to support his community back home through people, systems, businesses and technology. This is more than a conversation about philanthropy.
