In Matthew 20:29–34, we read about two blind men who cried out to Jesus, pleading for His mercy: “Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.” Though the crowd rebuked them, they continued to cry out to the Lord. Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and immediately they received their sight and followed Him.
This passage reminds us of our desperate need for the mercy of Christ. Just as these blind men could not restore their own sight, we cannot save ourselves from the darkness of sin. We are entirely dependent upon the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ, who alone is able to open blind eyes and lead sinners into the light of His truth.
As we consider this account, may we be encouraged to cry out to Christ in faith, trust in His compassion, and follow Him as our Lord and Saviour. May we also be reminded that true spiritual sight comes not through our own wisdom or righteousness, but through the gracious work of God.
May this sermon encourage you to behold the mercy of Christ, trust in Him, and walk in the light of His Word.
