#soundsystem #soundclashculture #soundsystemculture Ray Symbolic Hi Fi Foundation Sound System AUDIO ARCHIVES Ray, who was from Chishol Avenue in Waltham Park, Jamaica, ran Ray Symbolic HiFi. The Sound System began as a soul sound , but in 1977–1978, after Ranking Joe and Jah Screw joined, it becam a rub-a-dub sound. The sound won the title of "Year's Champion" in 1980, and in the late summer/autumn of that same year, they became the first Sound in Jamaica to play outside of the country, performing a completely sold-out tour of the UK. Including performances at the Newland Club in High Wycombe, Studio 54 in Wolverhampton, Acton Town Hall alongside Fat Man Hifi and Frontline International, St. Paul's Crypt in Deptford, and Acton. Ranking Joe and selector Jah Screw moved to U Roy's Stur Gav when Ray stopped to re-build the sound. Jah Screw and Ranking Joe joined Ray Symbolic once more in 1980. Ray Symbolic HiFi came to an end in 1981 when he was killed in a traffic accident. The sound has also featured Ranking Dread and Clint Eastwood as deejays.
