I went into the Ural forest that day to record a rushing forest stream. After several hours of recording, I started driving home along a rough, unpaved forest road. At one point, I had to get out of the car and walk ahead to see where it was safe to drive. And that’s when I heard them. A European robin and a common chaffinch were singing somewhere among the trees. Their voices were so beautiful that I simply turned off the engine and stood there, listening. I had no intention of making another recording that day, but I couldn’t leave without trying to capture that moment. I took out my field recorder and recorded their song. My camera battery had died, so I couldn’t film the scene.
