The Chicago Bulls offense is starting to reveal some real questions about roles, development and fit heading into the 2026-27 NBA season. 👀🐂
On today’s episode of Locked On Bulls, Haize and Pat The Designer start with Josh Giddey and ask whether Chicago’s lead guard is becoming too passive in Tiago Splitter’s offense.
Giddey has continued to move the ball well and create for teammates, but his shot volume has remained low through preseason. That leads to a bigger question: can the Bulls reach their offensive ceiling if one of their best players is mostly operating as a facilitator?
The guys debate whether Giddey should stay focused on organizing the offense around Matas Buzelis, Caleb Wilson and Norman Powell, or whether Chicago ultimately needs him to become a more aggressive scorer, especially when defenses go under screens and dare him to shoot.
Then the conversation turns to Caleb Wilson’s point-forward experiment.
Wilson showed both sides of the developmental process with 17 points, five assists and five turnovers against Denver. The playmaking flashes are encouraging, but Chicago also saw the risks of asking a 20-year-old rookie to handle too much creation responsibility too quickly.
Should the Bulls simplify Caleb’s role and let him run, cut, attack closeouts, rebound and defend? Or is this exactly the time to let him make mistakes so Chicago can find out whether he has real star-level creation upside?
Haize and Pat also break down Buddy Hield’s best preseason performance yet and why it may have explained the Bulls’ decision to move on from Rob Dillingham.
Hield scored 15 points and knocked down four threes, giving Chicago the exact kind of movement shooting and spacing Bryson Graham wanted around the young core.
The guys debate whether Hield simply fits this roster better than Dillingham did, whether he can become a true sixth-man weapon, and if Chicago identified a role problem with Dillingham before fans were ready to accept it.
The Bulls are starting to answer one of the biggest questions from the offseason: who should create, who should score, and who should space the floor?
Giddey may need to become more aggressive. Caleb may need to learn through mistakes. And Hield may already be showing why his skill set made more sense for this version of Chicago.
🎙️ Tune in to Locked On Bulls as Haize and Pat break down Josh Giddey’s pass-first approach, Caleb Wilson’s point-forward development, and whether Buddy Hield has already justified the Rob Dillingham trade.
