Douarnenez, Brittany | More Than Just a Coastal Town! Island, Ancient Village & Beaches

Join ‪@admaadventures‬ for a wonderful day exploring the beautiful coastal town of Douarnenez in Brittany, France, as we discover its historic harbours, beaches, old fishing traditions and some fascinating places hidden around the town. Our walk begins around the four harbours of Douarnenez, taking in the bustling quaysides, boats, coastline and atmospheric streets that give this Breton town its unique character. We wander through the narrow lanes and along the beaches, soaking up the sights and sounds of this fascinating maritime town. ⚓️🌊 One of the highlights of our day is Île Tristan, the small island just offshore that can only be reached on foot when the tide is low. As the sea retreats, a natural pathway appears across the rocks and sand, allowing us to walk over and explore this intriguing island. Once on Île Tristan, we discover the gardens, unexpected orchards, a lighthouse and the remains of historic fortifications and the intriguing Princesses’ House. It really feels like stepping into another world, surrounded by the sea and away from the bustle of the town. We then continue our walk along the coastline, exploring more of Douarnenez’s ports and beaches, before heading towards Plomarc’h, where spectacular views open across the Bay of Douarnenez and Rosmeur port. Here we discover the Gîtes des Plomarc’h, a beautifully restored 18th-century fishing village. The charming low stone cottages were once the homes of fishermen and offer a wonderful glimpse into Brittany’s maritime past. 🏡⚓️ It was a fantastic day of walking, exploring and discovering another beautiful corner of Brittany, from the lively harbour to a tidal island, coastal paths and an historic fishing village overlooking the bay.
