That isn't to say that we don't think Dave Grohl and the boys deserve their flowers, though. They've written some excellent rock anthems in the past, and had even had some late-era greatness with their 2011 record, Wasting Light, but it has started to go down hill. Taylor Hawkins rightful successor Ilan Rubin is now drumming for the band, and Dave Grohl was recently outed for fathering a child outside his marriage. How does this inform the record? It doesn't really. "Your Favorite Toy" is essentially Foo Fighters trying to make a blaring, punk inspired radio rock record but falling short in some way on nearly every song.
