Baldurs Gate 2: Shadows of Amn - Episode 22 - Jaheira's Deadly Curse

The Bhaalspawn returns to the streets of Athkatla as Gash Kadan and his companions turn their attention to the city's many mysteries. With the Planar Sphere secured and several dangerous quests behind them, there should finally be time to explore the capital of Amn. Instead, their journey quickly becomes entangled with the Shadow Thieves, dangerous mages and a deadly curse that threatens one of their own. The adventure begins in the Docks District, where the party encounters Sidge, a member of the Shadow Thieves who offers a more complicated view of the infamous guild. Not every thief is driven by greed or cruelty, and his words give Gash a glimpse into the divisions that exist within Athkatla's criminal underworld. Their exploration soon takes a more violent turn when the party searches abandoned houses and is attacked by Sanasha and Prebek, two apprentice mages who mistake the adventurers for assassins sent by their ruthless master. Spells fill the rooms as the party fights back against the terrified apprentices and survives another unexpected magical ambush. Yet not every problem in Athkatla can be solved with a sword. A chance encounter with a homeless child searching for her mother gives Gash the opportunity to offer a little kindness amid the city's hardships. Rather than simply walking away, he provides the girl with enough gold to help feed her family, proving that the Bhaalspawn's journey is not always about battles and bloodshed. The party then discovers Cromwell, one of the greatest smiths in all of Amn. With rare materials gathered throughout their travels, Cromwell can forge extraordinary weapons and armour, opening the door to some of the most powerful equipment the adventurers can obtain. Their fortunes change dramatically at the Sea's Bounty Tavern when Baron Ployer confronts Jaheira over her history with the Harpers. Before the party can fully understand what is happening, mysterious spellcasters dressed in black and green robes appear and place a deadly magical curse upon Jaheira. The strangers vanish almost as quickly as they arrive, leaving the party with a terrible problem. Jaheira's life is now slowly slipping away. Desperate for answers, Gash follows the trail to the Government District and questions the Cowled Wizards. They deny any knowledge of the curse, but another mysterious mage offers a dangerous bargain outside the building. Accepting the offer could give the party an advantage against Baron Ployer, but the price may prove just as dangerous as the curse itself. The investigation leads back to the Copper Coronet, where the party defeats the tavern's champion and uncovers another grim clue. A Harper suffered the same curse and died in the eastern Slums. The pieces are beginning to fall into place, and every path seems to lead back to Baron Ployer. Now the party must move quickly. Jaheira's curse is worsening, and the people responsible are still somewhere in Athkatla. Can Gash Kadan uncover Ployer's scheme before it is too late?
