False Prophets: How Celebrity Became Political Power

False Prophets examines how celebrity, podcast intimacy and culture-war politics became sources of political authority around Donald Trump. From the record of his first presidency to his return to office after the 2024 election, the film compares endorsements and promises with later criticism, defended positions and public corrections. Joe Rogan, Andrew Schulz, Dave Smith, Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson and other influential voices are examined through their own recorded words. Drawing on archive interviews, news reporting and published research, the film asks what happens when familiarity is mistaken for knowledge, and loyalty changes the standard of evidence. It also follows people who challenged the claims and voters describing different experiences of the administration. Individual accounts are presented as individual accounts; endorsements and audience research are not treated as proof of what caused an election result.
