According to Anda Perdana, everyone is scared of something. There’s at least one thing that one finds themselves to be deathly afraid of--no matter how strong and intimidating their presence might be. On the other side of the same coin, we're all addicted to something: it's just a question of owning up to your own particular poison. As he once croons: Mungkinkah kau akui bahwa dirimu itu seorang anak manja yang mengaku Dirinya pemberontak Tahukah bahwa dirimu itu hanya seorang pecandu Dan tak layak 'tuk sepotong cinta yang suci Pretty sure there are a lot of things to make from the lines. Taken off his song Cukup Dalam Hati, one half of the rock duo Matajiwa confronts the fear of inauthenticity, insincerity, and being seen as something that one is not--a poseur, if you may. While this song was created a whole decade ago, the undertones still ring true. The age of artifice that we live in remains a troubling time for seekers of authenticity. Nevertheless, in a perfect world, music shall never form some kind of meritocracy along the lines of "You have to prove you're good enough to listen to our music." If anything, I’m glad that’s not what happened in Satu Dekade “In Medio”, a concert celebrating Anda’s debut album of the same name that turns 10 this year. A crowd of around 200 whipped into a frenzy as Anda, and later joined by Kelompok Penerbang Roket and his sister Bonita, took the stage for a spin at nostalgia. Ten years, of course, is a long journey for an artistic work. New fans might flock to the record, while older ones might have grown out of it. Looking back, the artist will definitely see his works differently as he acquires new understandings and points of view along with time. But for a night in Rossi Musik, there’s nothing left to do but drink a toast to the album that kickstarted Anda’s voyage to become one of the nation’s most esteemed musicians. -- Zara Z. ►Subscribe to Sounds From The Corner : http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c...
