Siang Upper Multipurpose Project Dam Row Intensifies Amid Security Concerns and Alleged Threats

Siang Indigenous Farmers Forum (SIFF) has once again raised concerns over the ongoing controversy surrounding the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) and the Pre-Feasibility Report activities in the Siang region. The forum has maintained its opposition to the project and has questioned the deployment of security forces in project-affected areas. During the latest interaction, SIFF also spoke about the situation faced by people opposing the project. The forum appealed for support during the ongoing developments, saying, “Aisi situation mein mera saath khada rahiye.” It also made a statement concerning the upcoming election period, saying that people coming to seek support during elections should not expect to be welcomed if their concerns remain unaddressed. The forum further alleged that while he was was at home, some people allegedly arrived carrying guns with an intention to attack him. He also claimed that a FIR had been registered . SUMP dispute has continued to generate tension in parts of Siang and Upper Siang, with project-affected villagers and organisations opposing PFR-related activities, while authorities have been attempting to move the process forward.
