The friends' little path marker - a stick with a red leaf flag - tips over flat in the grass at the first breeze! Momo stands it up and pushes it deeper into the soft soil: it wobbles and falls again. Bobo stands it up and piles little stones round its foot: the stones roll away and down it goes. Bobo tilts his head, thinking. Dot has an idea: three thin sticks, all the same length! She stands them up together, ties their tops with a grass tie, spreads their feet out into a triangle stand and stands the marker in the middle. Momo pokes a leg, Bobo pokes a leg - it doesn't budge. A breeze comes... and the little marker stands steady by the path. ABOUT THIS VIDEO • Series: Clever Clay Friends, Episode 42 - "Our Path Marker Keeps Falling Over!" Why does a triangle stand so steady? 5. Can you find a tripod or a three-legged stool at home? FAQ Q: What age is this for? A: Toddlers and preschoolers, about 2-6 years old, ideally watched together with a grown-up. Q: What does this episode teach? A: Early engineering and problem solving: a single stick in soft ground tips over easily, but three sticks tied at the top with their feet spread into a triangle (a tripod) stand steady by themselves - the triangle is a naturally stable shape. Q: Can we try it at home? A: Yes - with a grown-up, stand a pencil on its end (it falls), then tie three straws or pencils together at the top with a rubber band, spread their feet out and see the stand hold a light toy. Q: Are there words? A: No. Clever Clay Friends is wordless: the story is told with actions, music and sound, so children can tell it in their own words.
