WALTER GRAVES — IRON ROAD LAMENT (1972) Iron Road Lament is a vintage railroad blues instrumental album built around resonator guitar, harmonica, acoustic guitar, fiddle and upright bass. The record moves through freight-yard shuffles, slow slide guitar laments, lonely depot pieces and worn American roots instrumentals, carrying the atmosphere of steam locomotives, rusty rails, wooden platforms and first light over an old railway yard. Raw, earthy and deeply human, with loose timing, worn strings, subtle tape hiss and the analog character of a forgotten 1970s railroad blues record.
