WE BELIEVE! | The Nicene Creed One God. One Lord Jesus Christ. One Holy Spirit. For more than 1,600 years, Christians have confessed the faith expressed in the Nicene Creed. This epic anthem begins with “We believe,” builds through Christ's death and triumphant resurrection, and reaches its greatest declaration in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. The Creed originated at the Council of Nicaea in AD 325 and was expanded at Constantinople in AD 381. This song adapts the historic Western version, including “the Father and the Son” in its confession of the Holy Spirit. The word “universal” expresses the meaning of “catholic” in the original Creed: the worldwide Church.
