I Painted The Soul of the Rose | Old Master Oil Study

I painted an oil study of John William Waterhouse’s The Soul of the Rose, from the first sketch and brown underpainting to the final glazing layer. This quiet art vlog follows the process of reworking the painting when something started to feel slightly off, then slowly bringing it back together through colour, details and light. I’ve wanted to paint this piece for a while. The softness of the roses, the quiet profile, and that deep, dreamlike background made it such a beautiful study to spend time with.
