TGP #293 - Welcome to The Gathering Point, where glass blowing meets laughter, live banters, a touch of chaos and sometimes, someone will get thrown under the bus!! Tonight’s episode was about drinkware, even thought we started the show by roasting an Osage orange. We took this gnarly fruit, got it sizzling, and had way too much fun imagining it as a cocktail bowl. Yes, drinkware night was already getting weird, and we hadn’t even touched the molten glass yet. The team—Jake, Chris, Michelle, Oliver and Bess—kicked things off with some fall vibes, channeling pumpkin pie aromas and campfire memories while getting down to serious glass artistry. While Chris declared the roasted Osage orange “certified charred,” Jake debated whether it could fetch a couple grand if we stuck it on a pedestal and called it “Art”. (Spoiler: probably not.) Meanwhile, the chat was popping off, with shout-outs from California to Ontario and everywhere in between. Our fans know how to keep the energy high! Jake dove into the demos layering recycled blue and clear glass, giving us a live step by step of his crackling technique. If you’ve never seen glass dunked into water and come out looking like dragon skin, you’re missing out. We broke down why clear glass makes the best crackle (hint: it’s all about how it reflects light and moves differently than colored glass). Nerdy? Maybe. Cool? Absolutely. And let’s talk about the banter. Chris and Jake went back and forth on why Jake caps the glass when he dunks it in water—something about air pressure, expansion, and keeping the shape intact. But honestly, half the fun was watching them try to explain it without cracking up. “Dragon skin” and “taking it to dunk town” are now part of our official vocabulary. In the live chat, you all had us laughing with your guesses and questions, from “Will it burn?” (yes) to “Why does crackle glass look so cool?” (because science and artistry are besties). And let’s not forget the behind-the-scenes crew. Roland was running the edits tonight, learning the ropes for future clips, while we gave a big shout-out to Bethany (aka “Best”) for keeping things smooth even when she wasn’t here. As always, the show was more than just glassblowing. It was a little quirky, a little educational, and a lot of fun. We laughed, we roasted weird fruit, we crafted gorgeous drinkware, and we made memories. Because at the end of the day, The Gathering Point isn’t just about glass—it’s about connection, creativity, and keeping things just the right amount of ridiculous.
