Alcohol Almost Cost Him His DJ Career | Mkatlo on Money & Discipline

Alcohol almost cost him his DJ career. Katlego “Mkatlo” Montsho, born and raised in Wattville, Benoni, opens up about money, mistakes, grief and the discipline it takes to keep moving forward. From his early days playing with CDs to building businesses beyond music, Mkatlo shares lessons from behind the decks and everyday life. He reflects on earning and losing money, how alcohol affected his professional relationships, and why protecting your reputation matters. We also discuss losing his father and grandmother, the responsibility of providing for his family, and his cleaning business specialising in shoes, carpets, bedding and clothing. For upcoming DJs, he shares practical advice: build your brand, record your sets, arrive early, read the crowd and always have a backup. Plus, he recalls an unforgettable set at AM Club. He also shares plans for his clothing launch in November 2026, an EP in February 2027 and an event around June 2027. An honest conversation about accountability, family, entrepreneurship and a lasting love for music.
