Valve cover modification Part 1

After installing bigger valves in the head, and changing over to "Roller Rocker Arms", the valvetrain is a bit taller than it was when completely stock. This requires a taller valve cover as the stock one is too short. Normally this is no big deal when you're working on a typical American V8, but for the Ford 300-6, there are currently no tall valve covers available so you have to get creative. You could custom fabricate a spacer out of aluminum, but that would cost almost $700 since it requires using a laser scanner to make a pattern that a VERY expensive cutting machine can use to cut the spacer out of a thick sheet of aluminum. The only other choice is to make our own taller valve cover by taking a second valve cover, and cutting it about 1 inch up from the mounting flange, and brazing it to the original valve cover, giving us the extra height we need to clear our new high performance valvetrain. We were lucky, as we have the donor truck engine. What makes it even better is that the donor truck engine has the newer design valve cover that is made of much thicker material so the gasket flange is more robust and won't deform when you tighten down the valve cover bolts.
