SMSL PL200 MK2 - How Good Is This New CD Player? Sound Samples.

🔸 In this video, we take a closer look at the new SMSL PL200 MK2 CD player — unboxing it, looking at its construction and main features, and then moving on to the most interesting part -listening. We recorded sound samples so you can judge its sound for yourself. We tested the PL200 MK2 in two ways: as a CD transport with an external DAC, and as a complete CD player using its built-in DAC. We also compared its sound with our Marantz CD-17 MkIII — a well-regarded CD player from its time. As you can hear, compared to the classic Marantz CD player, its sound is more modern, more detailed, and offers higher resolution. Some people may prefer this character, while others may not. But it is quite clear that technology has moved forward, and today, for relatively little money, you can get a unit with clean, detailed sound, high resolution, and quite respectable musicality. Of course, the PL200 MK2 is particularly interesting as part of a compact desktop audio system. In fact, this is the kind of setup the manufacturer clearly had in mind: its compact design, built-in DAC, headphone output, and the ability to use it either as a CD player or as a transport make it a versatile solution for a small desktop or home audio system. From our point of view, if you still use CDs, we can certainly recommend this player. Especially if you already have a good external DAC, the PL200 MK2 can be used as a transport, while also giving you the option of using it as a complete CD player.
