This is the first piece to come out of the shop — a small oak nightstand with end grain tops we built from scratch. Most furniture tops are face-grain boards glued edge to edge. This one isn't. Every square in the top and shelf is a cross-section of oak, cut on the table saw, arranged by hand, and glued in stages over three days. The X-braces came last, joining everything into one quiet piece of furniture. Built in oak. Hard wax oil finish. ~25 hours of bench time. Tools: table saw, planer, bandsaw, edge router, oscillating spindle sander. #woodworking #endgrain #nightstand #handmade #satisfying #craftsmanship
