Resurrected from its 30 year hibernation in a forgotten cardboard box, this tape is one of a handful of treasures DJ Trance (Jason Blakemore) has graciously made available to me to share on the channel. "One Turntable Fish Homie / One Stoned Buzzard" was mixed in 1993. As the name suggests, this mix was crafted with just a single turntable, an analog Chroma synthesizer, and a few choice samples pulled from a trusty old tape deck. It’s an early glimpse into the out-of-the-box creativity and ingenuity that Jason would later become known for behind the decks. The result is a one of a kind and fluid journey through early electronica, featuring tracks from The Orb, Blunted Dummies, Afrolectric and more. And why just a single turntable, you ask? Well, Jason might neither confirm nor deny the following claim from the mysterious MrChatterboodamn, "Jason named side A of this mix based on an incident where Thee-O brazenly poured a whole tin of King Oscar sardines on one of the turntables at an event. With olive oil and several shiny bristlings covering the spinning platter, Jason didn't know how to react, and just blurted: "Only one turntable fish, homie!" This video made its debut during a Saturday live stream on 8/24/2024, sparking a fantastic chat among old friends, including Jason Blakemore, Thee-o, J-Splat, and even Ken Lawrence from Pure Acid Mixtapes! I highly recommend hitting 'Show chat replay' to follow along with all the banter! 00:00 Side A 44:46 Side B
