After the absolute chaos of Darwin and our bucket-list Top End Safari, we were ready for something a little slower. So we headed into Litchfield National Park and this place was exactly what we needed. Greenery, waterfalls, swimming holes, creek crossings and some seriously beautiful scenery… Litchfield felt like our own little tropical sanctuary in the middle of the Top End. We spent our time exploring as many of the sights as we could, but one place completely stole the show for us… 💦 Sandy Creek Falls. It was quieter than some of the other popular spots, incredibly peaceful and surrounded by that beautiful NT greenery. After everything we'd been through on the road, sitting beside that waterfall and having a swim felt like absolute bliss. We based ourselves at Litchfield Safari Camp, which ended up being one of our favourite powered stays of the trip. With the NT heat and humidity absolutely hammering us, having a pool to cool off in was a bloody lifesaver. We loved the facilities, the natural surroundings and the chance to properly slow down for a few days. And of course, it wouldn't be a Book Of Gypsies episode without a few random wildlife encounters… including a massive water monitor cruising around the campground! 🦎 Throughout the park we explored waterfalls, swimming holes, walking tracks and some of the incredible sights that make Litchfield such a special part of the Northern Territory. But there was also something we had to be honest about… By this stage of our lap, travel fatigue was really starting to catch up with us. We had originally planned to continue on and explore Kakadu National Park, but we made the decision to leave it for another trip. We knew we didn't have the energy to properly appreciate everything Kakadu has to offer, and we'd rather come back one day and give it the time it deserves. Sometimes travelling isn't about ticking every single box. Sometimes it's knowing when to slow down, have a swim and enjoy where you are. And Litchfield gave us exactly that. 🌿 Waterfalls 💦 Swimming holes 🦎 Wildlife 🚐 Camp life 🥾 Walks 🌴 Pure Top End scenery This was one of those stops that reminded us why we love travelling Australia so bloody much.
