The Labyrinth of Fog is one of the most unique and ambitious zones ever added to City of Heroes Homecoming — a Homecoming original content addition introduced in Issue 28 Page 1, built entirely by the Homecoming development team. It is a co-op trial zone accessible only through the Midnighter Club, and unlike anything else in the game.
The zone's minimum entry level was lowered to 35 in a recent patch, opening up the Tests of Combat missions for leveling — but the Core and Font of Malevolence content, including the Minotaur In The Fog encounter, still requires level 45-50 plus Core access badges.
The Labyrinth is a pocket dimension contained within an ancient cube created by the Cimeroran inventor Daedalus — a vast endless maze filled with visages of nightmare born from the memories of those who enter, and hunted by a monstrous beast that roams its halls. Originally a training ground for Midnight Club magicians, the Dream Doctor opened its doors to all powerful heroes and villains as the most promising method available for quickly building champions capable of defending the world against the threats Praetoria and beyond have unleashed.
The zone is divided into color-coded areas — red, yellow, green, blue, violet, and orange — each tinting the enemy selection and difficulty of the encounters within. Colored portals throughout the Core lead to matching areas. Every major villain group in the entire game can spawn here — Arachnos, Circle of Thorns, Council, Crey, Devouring Earth, Freakshow, Rikti, Nemesis, Malta, Sky Raiders, Soldiers of Rularuu, Carnival of Shadows, Cimeroran Traitors, Tsoo, Void Hunters, and many more — all at elevated difficulty.
Scattered through the maze are Motes — temporary powers representing primal emotions: Apathy, Cowardice, Despair, Fury, Greed, Jealousy, and Violence. Collecting them grants unique combat abilities during your run. Hidden areas discoverable by exploring off the main paths include the Boat of Doom, the Forbidden Server Room, Jack's Realm, the Dead End Train, and the extremely rare Statesman's Grave accessible only by very low chance through the Labyrinth teleport power.
The zone's major event is The Minotaur in the Fog — a powerful boss creature that hunts the maze. The Colosseum of Minos hosts gladiatorial combat challenges, and Pylonicus — a near-unkillable regenerating phantom — provides a convenient damage benchmark for testing builds. Defeating the Minotaur rewards Aether Salvage, reward merits, and badges.
I ran this with my Fire Blast/Atomic Manipulation Blaster — upgraded my Incarnate to Melee Core Hybrid, plus a costume upgrade.
