T.E. Lawrence was one of the most famous people in the world in the early years of the 20th century due to his participation in WW1. He united Arab tribes to fight under one banner against the Ottoman Empire in what was one of the turning points of the war for the allies. Many of his exploits were caught on camera and when these were shown around the world, he became known as Lawrence of Arabia. Hollywood director, David Lean helmed a film about his life - Lawrence of Arabia 1962 and it starred Peter O'Toole, Omar Sharif, Alec Guinness and a whole host of other stars of screen and stage. The film went on to win 7 Oscars and Steven Spielberg has even described it as his favourite film of all time. Many believe that Lawrence was from Oxford, which is where he went to university, however, he was actually born in Tremadog, North Wales in 1888. Being a big fan of the film, I decided to make the pilgrimage to this now famous history location as I was staying close by whilst on a short holiday away from Liverpool. The quiet Welsh town is home to one of Britain's most famous sons and although he didn't stay long in Cymru, the areas influence had an important influence on his story.
