#BurialDecomposition #ForensicScience In the first month after burial, the body keeps changing, and the pace depends on the surroundings. Within the first 24 to 72 hours, blood settles into the lower parts of the body, causing livor mortis, while autolysis begins as the body's own enzymes break down tissue from the inside. By around day three, gas-producing bacteria in the intestines and airways cause bloating and skin discoloration, and putrefaction speeds up as microbes release hydrogen sulfide and other volatile compounds responsible for the odor of decomposition. Soil temperature, moisture, oxygen availability, and the condition of the coffin all affect how quickly these stages unfold. In the second and third weeks, adipocere, a waxy, soap-like substance, may form from body fat in waterlogged or low-oxygen conditions. Skin slippage and deeper soft tissue breakdown also become more pronounced. By day thirty, how much of the skeleton is exposed depends on whether conditions favored rapid tissue loss or slowed decay through mummification or adipocere formation. #Burial #Decomposition #Putrefaction #Adipocere #Autolysis #LivorMortis #ForensicScience #BodyAfterDeath
