In the late 1950s, the nostalgia for steam locomotives was just taking off. A chance encounter in 1958 started the Reading Company down a path that would result in one of the better known pioneering mainline steam excursion programs, the Iron Horse Rambles, known commonly as the Reading Rambles.
Featuring T-1 class locomotives 2124, 2100, and eventually 2102, the Iron Horse Rambles became a legend among mainline steam operations after the transition to diesel power was complete. In this video, we will have a brief overview of the story of the Rambles and the locomotives that participated, as well as where the engines went afterwards. All this, using model trains in HO scale.
