This Rabbit Broke Me!

It doesn’t happen very often now… but every so often a target comes along that just refuses to make sense - This was one of them. On this visit to Ashcombe Shooting Ground I found myself completely stuck on a rabbit target that, on paper, should have been straightforward — but in reality became one of the most frustrating clays I’ve shot in a long time. With Don Brunt on hand, we broke the target down properly: why it looked easy, why it wasn’t, and how subtle changes in line, timing and commitment can make all the difference. It’s a perfect example of how simple targets often expose the biggest weaknesses. Ashcombe is one of those grounds that quietly gets everything right — varied targets, clever use of the landscape, and stands that genuinely make you think rather than just pull the trigger. It’s the sort of place where you don’t just shoot clays… you learn something about your shooting.
