It is known for its diverse topography, ranging from sandy coastal plains to craggy volcanic mountains and the lushness of the Orange River. The Richtersveld is regarded as the only arid biodiversity hotspot on Earth. During the fictional War of 2042, an American-backed corporation established an illegal resource extraction site along the neighboring border with Namibia after a rare fuel component was discovered. Reckless operations stripped the surrounding desert of life, and the high temperatures became lethal, dooming the development complex to failure. In Battlefield™ 2042, Flashpoint is the new map introduced during Season 4: Eleventh Hour. Situated in the Richtersveld, the map sets the stage for a high-stakes collision between American and Russian forces as the two superpowers try to reclaim the facility and the hidden geoengineering and terraforming technology from the No-Pats rebels led by the man known as Oz.
