8-13-2026 New Visitor and Online Shop Update

A New Visitor and Online Shop Update… Shadow’s last nest visit was July 23rd, the same day Sandy and Luna were last seen in the habitat. With his eaglets gone, this began his summer vacation when the eagles are usually seen around the habitat but only visit the nest occasionally. A banded sub adult eagle was first seen on our cams in the habitat on August 6th. As the days progressed the sub adult started to perch near Shadow in several of his favored trees. This eagle is banded KD1, hatched in March of 2022 in Southern California, making it 4 ½ years old. While banding, DNA testing was not done. We cannot confirm if the eagle is a female or not, but comparing size against Shadow, KD1 is larger. Female eagles are 25-33% larger than males. KD1 first visited the nest on 8/10, just hours after it was announced Jackie had passed and has stopped by a couple of times since then. Shadow glided into the nest this afternoon, with KD1 not far behind. It is great to see Shadow up close and doing well. Is this a new bond forming between these 2? Well, it could be and it may not be, only time will tell. We can only observe and see what takes place once breeding season is upon us, which will not be until later this fall/winter season. In the meantime, we are happy to see Shadow has some company out there in the habitat. FOBBV Online Shop Update: Within 24 hours of the announcement of Jackie’s passing, our online shop basically sold out. We are working daily, reordering most of our merchandise and some orders are already on the way. We can only suggest that you check the shop often for the items you are looking for as we do believe items will again sell out quickly. Due to the volume of orders received in a short period, shipping times will be longer, please check the shop for details. https://friendsofbigbearvalley.org/pr... Though talks have begun with other local organizations and agencies, we do not have plans to share regarding a gathering for Jackie at this time. If/when we have information, it will be posted here. It’s been a tough month, together we will get through this, and Shadow will too.
