RISE - original lyrics music © 2019 finnperkins original lyrics music (Banjo intro) STORIES BEHIND A SONG Originally written as a powerful anthem, "RISE" features a versatile structure that adapts seamlessly to a driving country arrangement or the steady, rhythmic cadence of a march. Drawing from years of headlines and the collective weight of a nation—spanning the watershed moment of Trayvon Martin's tragedy, the grief of Breonna Taylor's death, and the searing events surrounding George Floyd during the Black Lives Matter movement—every piece of information witnessed and absorbed along the way is distilled directly into the music. Beyond the streets, the composition expands to capture aggressive enforcement tactics and heavy-handed operations of immigration agencies across successive administrations from the post-Obama years through the Trump and Biden , 2nd Trump Administration;, casting a critical eye on the Department of Homeland Security and militarized units policing communities. STORYBOARD/scene Descriptions: Inspired by the synthesis of 'Mondrian' and 'Continuum,' this piece uses translucent colors on clear vinyl to evoke the luminous effect of stained glass." and the result is stunning."
