Traditional Folk Song - Dayung Sampan (Live at BUDAYA 4.0: Cerita Kita)

This song showcases how multiculturalism allows us to view something classic from a vastly different perspectives and reinvent them, the same way our hybrid “Peranakan” cultures (Nyonya & Baba, Chitty, Jawi Peranakan) came to be. Through the ages, the danceable original Gambang Keromong tune becomes a sweet, soft and loving Chinese melody, and then a booming, powerful chant for rafting. "Culture is inherently intertwined, how much can you isolate before the cultural tapestry reduces to threads?" - Kimberley Chee Yit Mei, Malaysian Youth. Arranged by Chris Yang
