The 49ers Don’t Need a Blockbuster WR Trade

The 49ers’ wide receiver room is banged up again, and a lot of the fan base is in full panic mode heading into Tuesday’s trade deadline. Mike Evans is still out, Deebo Samuel is still out, and Jauan Jennings has already turned down a return to San Francisco. Does that mean the Niners have to go all in on a big wide receiver trade, or is this just “wide receiver PTSD” talking? In this segment, Willard and Dibs argue that fear of more injuries is no way to run a roster. San Francisco won 13 games last year through a pile of wide receiver injuries. Kyle Shanahan’s offense, built around 21 personnel, doesn’t lean on receivers to win games, and the next two opponents (the Raiders and the Cowboys) field some of the worst defenses in football. They also go back through eight years of Lynch and Shanahan deadline deals. The number of those trades made because someone got hurt? Zero. Topics discussed include: Why 49ers fans are scared of ending up without healthy wide receivers Jauan Jennings turning down a reserve role with the Niners Josh Downs, Brian Thomas Jr. and Calvin Ridley trade odds Sean McVay’s injury comments and the “soft” Rams Every 49ers deadline deal under Lynch and Shanahan, and none were injury reactions Deadline predictions: depth at WR, a cornerback, no top-three-round picks Mike Evans’ recovery and the upcoming Minnesota and Seattle stretch Should the 49ers make a big wide receiver move at the deadline, or ride it out?
