Uber Driver Arrested for DUI With Passengers Still in the Car

A woman was driving for Uber when a Charlotte County deputy stopped her for weaving across lane lines and driving well under the speed limit. She had multiple passengers in the vehicle. She told Deputy Dotson she had not been drinking and blamed the Uber app's navigation. The deputy reported the smell of alcohol, slurred speech, and glassy eyes. Elliot spent nearly twenty minutes unable to decide whether to attempt field sobriety exercises, saying she had watched videos telling her never to agree. She eventually began. She stopped partway through, declining to attempt the walk-and-turn and citing the slope of the pavement. She was arrested for DUI. During the inventory search before the tow, deputies found a glass pipe in the center console. Then a second. Then a third, along with a baggie containing powder. Her passengers -- who had met her that night through the app -- were questioned one by one and left to arrange another ride. All footage obtained through public records requests.
