Graphics Check for fan-made unofficial Gran Turismo 2 Remaster on PC with a new 3D renderer, plus the debug panel I use to test it.
This is a work-in-progress look at the remaster side of my GT2. The game runs as it always did. Physics, AI and race results come out identical to the original. What changed is how it's drawn.
What's in this graphics update
A new renderer draws the 3D scene in full color, so there's no 16-bit banding in the sky.
Car bodies are smoothed and upscaled automatically from the original models.
Textures are upscaled automatically from the original art.
Car reflections are softer, follow the world as the car turns, and get stronger at glancing angles.
A subtle lens flare comes from the bright spot in the sky, with soft shadows, light bloom and glows on the night lights.
Draw distance is longer: scenery no longer pops in at 300 m, and detail holds about 3x farther out.
Every effect can be toggled live to compare against the original PS1 look.
What the debug panel shows:
The build stamp (runtime version and module hash).
Car position on the map, height, heading, speed and frame rate.
The collision walls near the car, on a top-down minimap.
Primitives drawn per frame, and whether the game hit its draw limit.
Live game state, watched values and save data.
The panel only reads memory. The game runs the same with it on or off.
