"The Art of Survival" with Diederik Oostdijk - The JDCRP Reading Room

On September 23, 2026, the Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project (JDCRP) featured Diederik Oostdijk in the JDCRP Reading Room, an online conversation series featuring authors whose works have deepened our understanding of looted art and Jewish culture. In this session, Diederik Oostdijk presented his upcoming book, Overlevingskunst ("The Art of Survival"), which chronicles the survival journeys of three Dutch Jewish families, each of which managed to escape Nazi persecution by parting with valued art objects from their collections. The book traces the fates of the family members and of five works of art that were pivotal to their survival. Overlevingskunst will be published in Dutch on October 20. This JDCRP Reading Room event offers an advance look at the book's contents and an opportunity for English-speaking audiences to learn about research that will otherwise be only available in Dutch. No prior reading is required.
