I set out alone to Sooriyakanda Mountain in the evening, hoping to spend the night camping on the mountaintop. ⛰️ At the summit, there are three transmission towers, and the surrounding area offers a beautiful but mysterious atmosphere. However, after reaching the location, I discovered something I hadn’t known before — camping is currently prohibited at Sooriyakanda. One of the main reasons for this restriction is the environmental damage caused by some visitors. Some people have even polluted natural water sources. 💧🌿 As travelers, protecting nature is our duty and responsibility. Beautiful places like this can only remain beautiful if we respect and protect them. As evening approached, I suddenly found myself in a difficult situation. I tried my best to find a suitable place to spend the night, but unfortunately, all my efforts were unsuccessful. In the end, I had no choice but to set up my tent and spend the night there. ⛺🌌 Today, visitors are allowed to come and explore the area, but overnight camping is not permitted. Sooriyakanda is also a place that reminds us of a dark chapter in Sri Lanka’s history. The discovery of the Sooriyakanda mass grave made this area particularly significant, and because of its tragic history, many people consider the place mysterious and even haunted. 🌫️ Spending a night completely alone in a place with such a dark and mysterious history was truly a challenging and unforgettable experience.
