Raw 360 walkthrough of our scooter ride from Hideout Eco Bamboo House to Gembleng Waterfall. August 2026. We grabbed the scooter from Hideout and headed out to Gembleng Waterfall in Sidemen. The ride itself was interesting—winding roads through rice fields and local villages, watching life go by in East Bali. Not the longest trip, but definitely a fun one. The Scooter Ride from Hideout: It's about 14.7 km from Hideout to Gembleng Waterfall. The roads are generally well-paved and the waterfall is well-signposted all along the way. You ride past jungle trees, then the rice fields open up, and eventually you're on smaller village roads surrounded by traditional buildings before you reach the parking area. Easy to find, just take it slow and enjoy the scenery. Some History & Cool Facts: Gembleng isn't just a pretty spot—it holds real cultural significance. It was used by the local community for melukat, a traditional Balinese purification ritual. Even today, you'll find small shrines around the waterfall used for prayer . The site opened to the public around 2020, promoted through social media, but it's kept its sacred roots intact . It's located in Tri Eka Buana Village, Sidemen District, Karangasem Regency . Unlike most Bali waterfalls where you hike down, at Gembleng you actually climb up. The path is around 250 metres each way with about 50 metres of elevation gain—roughly 60 to 90 steps hidden in the jungle . The multi-tiered rock formation creates three terraced natural infinity pools, each with crystal-clear water and panoramic views over the Sidemen valley . The Waterfall: Gembleng isn't a massive waterfall—it's more about the natural infinity-style pools carved into the rocks, with panoramic views over the jungle and valleys. There are three terraced rock pools you can swim in, and the water is incredibly refreshing. It's a short walk from the parking area—about 5-10 minutes down some stairs and across a wooden suspension bridge. The path can be slippery, so grippy shoes are a good idea. It's donation-based entry, usually around 20-50k IDR . What Made It Special: Hardly any tourists when we were there. No crowds, no waiting for a spot in the water—just us and the pools. We swam in each level, jumping between the terraced rock pools and soaking it all in. Because it was so quiet, we could actually take our time and get some really good photos without anyone else in the frame. That's rare in Bali. Lunch at the Top: The real reward is at the top—there's a restaurant with absolutely stunning views over the waterfall and the surrounding countryside. But getting there? Steep stairs. Proper leg-burner. Worth every step though once you're up there. We sat for lunch and just soaked it all in. The food is genuinely good—Indonesian classics, generous portions, and really affordable for the spot. The view alone makes the climb worth it.
