This U14 Girls Academy session focuses on attacking in Phase III—the final third—with the objective of creating chances and scoring goals. Recorded as part of my U.S. Soccer A-Youth License coursework. Our main question: Is there space behind the opponent’s back line, and how can we exploit it? We worked on creating numerical and positional advantages, coordinating passes with attacking runs, and arriving together in the box to support the attack. Session progression 1:53 Dynamic warm-up Accelerations, changes of direction, and explosive movements to prepare players for the session. 4:04 Activity #1: 1v1 with a support pass Focus: creating separation from the defender, recognizing available space, and exploiting it. 20:40 Activity #2: 5v5 with two goalkeepers Focus: runs behind the back line, timing of movement, and coordination between the passer and the runner. 53:10 Activity #3: Game An opportunity to observe whether players applied the attacking behaviors from the earlier activities, with fewer constraints and less coaching intervention. Training context This was the second session of a three-session training week, held on Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s match. It was planned as the highest-load day of the week. Attendance was reduced due to rainy conditions.
