Culture Meets Community — Art, Identity & East African Solidarity

In this episode of Naserian Rises, we sit down with Elon, founder of Culture Meets Community, to explore how art and storytelling become tools for cultural representation, healing, and connection within the East African diaspora. Elon shares the story behind launching Culture Meets Community in March 2026 born from a need for solidarity within Minnesota's East African community and why she chose to focus specifically on East African culture and art, rather than African culture broadly, to spotlight traditions that are often underrepresented compared to West African art. 🎙️ Naserian Rises is a video series from Naserian Axis Consulting, an African women-led impact advisory firm working at the intersection of gender equality, governance, and community-driven development. In this episode, we discuss: ✅ Why Culture Meets Community was founded — solidarity in the Minnesota East African community ✅ The case for centering East African art and culture specifically ✅ Shared identities and differences across East African countries ✅ Navigating dual identity as an Ethiopian American / third culture kid ✅ Art as a tool for cultural representation, belonging, and decolonizing the mind 👉 Subscribe for more conversations on gender equality, governance, culture, and community-led change across Africa and the diaspora. 👉 Follow Naserian Axis: www.naserianaxis.com / https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast... 👉 Follow Culture Meets Community: https://www.instagram.com/culturemeet... #NaserianRises #NaserianAxis #CultureMeetsCommunity #EastAfricanDiaspora #DecolonizingTheMind Naserian Rises, Naserian Axis, Culture Meets Community, Naserian Axis Consulting About Naserian Axis: Naserian Axis Consulting is an African women-led advisory firm delivering gender equality, governance, MEL, and organizational development services across East Africa and globally.
